We start the chapter off with Ichika telling Asta about the history of the Yami clan, they are descendants of a group of assassins known as The Kijin.

They were placed in charge of a territory at the far edge of The Land of the Sun called Goshu, which was ruled by the Ryudo clan.

Ichika then tells Asta about a legend in their land, a story of a 5-headed dragon quelled by a heavenly maiden. The yoryoku of the dragon seeped out and turned their ocean black, distorting time and space and connecting it to hell.

Ichika and Yami’s father complains to Yami about the situation they have been put in due to their ancestors while trying to train Yami. Yami says that their father is the only person who complains about their heritage. With alcohol in hand, Yami’s drunken father is disgusted by the look Ichika is giving him, proclaiming that she is a spitting image of her mother and calling Ichika dead weight on the clan due to being a girl.

Their father goes to strike Ichika when Yami steps in and stops his father’s bokken with his. Yami’s father is impressed and says that Yami may have a higher yoryoku than Ryudo. He tells Yami that the title of Demon-God, the strongest fighter in the clan, may be given to Yami.

After Yami prevents his father from hurting Ichika, the kids go fishing to get away from their father. Turns out Yami is pretty good at fishing, Ryudo sees Yami and comes over, despite the fisherman warning Ryudo that he will get muddy and that his carers will get angry with him again. Yami reminds Ryudo that their ranks are vastly different for them to be associating with each other.

Ryudo tells the group about his dream of the country becoming a place where everyone gets along without prejudice.

Yami shoots Ryudo’s dream down, but says it is a pretty nice dream.

Ichika tells Asta that she thought it was a nice dream too, but that Yami was lying and that he was, a Demon-God, and that Yami was far worse than their father. Yami had apparently massacred their father and the entirety of their clan.

He then abandoned them and fled to sea where he has been, “living easy”, with Asta’s people. She asks how Asta can trust a man like him and that it makes no sense.

Asta does not believe what Ichika has told him and that there was no way that Yami would do something like that. Asta proclaims that he believes in the Captain Yami that he has seen.

Ichika calls Asta an ignorant fool and that he knows nothing. She tells Asta that she saw it all with her own eyes.

Asta refuses to believe her even if she is Yami’s sister and that he won’t back down on his belief.

Ichika says that if that is what Asta thinks, then he needs to prove it by using the strength he has acquired while Asta was with Yami. She tells him that she will train him and that she will do just as he wanted. Ichika will get serious!

With what was told to us in this chapter about the ocean turning black and being connected to hell, there is the possibility that Yami may have made a devil pact when he was younger, as he doesn’t seem like the type of person to kill unless forced to. Yami being controlled during the massacre makes the most sense.
